Description
A former delinquent from Yokohama, Renji Himuro has risen through the ranks to become the wakagashira, or second-in-command, of the Kyowa-kai, Japan's largest yakuza organization. His ultimate ambition is nothing less than the complete unification of Japan's criminal underworld. However, this path to absolute power takes a dark and personal turn when a suspicious message arrives on his phone. It contains a single command, "We are waiting for you. Come alone," accompanied by a photograph of his only son, bound and captive.
The story follows Himuro as he is drawn into a desperate and solitary fight to rescue his son, all while maintaining his grip on the organization and his quest for supremacy. The narrative expands beyond a simple rescue mission, evolving into a sprawling crime saga that explores complex conflicts on multiple fronts.
The central protagonist is Renji Himuro, a charismatic and powerful yakuza boss whose journey from a street-level thug to a national crime lord forms the core of the story. Alongside him is his trusted partner, Yuto Tamura, who has climbed the ranks from his own delinquent origins. Together, they embody a traditional yakuza moral code, seeking to protect the weak and crush the mighty as they build their empire. The world they navigate is not limited to traditional gang conflicts. The series expands to depict a three-way power struggle in Tokyo, pitting the Kyowa-kai against the tokuryu, an anonymous and mobile criminal class that operates through underground job markets, as well as the police force trying to maintain order in the city. This setting explores how older organized crime syndicates clash with modern, faceless criminal networks.
Notable narrative arcs include the initial rise of Himuro and Tamura as they build the Kyowa-kai and embark on their campaign to unify Japan's yakuza. This is followed by a high-stakes rescue arc involving a kidnapping in Taiwan, where Himuro confronts the remnants of a rival syndicate seeking revenge. Later, the saga enters the Tokyo-hen arc, which shifts the focus to the urban sprawl of the capital and introduces the tokuryu as a new, formidable threat that upends the existing criminal order.
