Description
Satsuki Amamiya is left distraught when the third-year members of her high school’s Photography Club, including the senpai she admired, graduate and leave the club on the verge of extinction. With only her cheerful best friend An Kiriyama remaining, the club room feels empty and Satsuki loses motivation. To lift her spirits, An suggests buying new camera equipment. This leads them to the home of Haruno Akiyama, a laid-back manga artist who lives above her grandmother’s retro candy shop and happens to be selling a 360-degree camera. Observing the two students, Haruno decides to use them as inspiration for a new manga about high schoolers. Meanwhile, Sakurako Shikishima, the quiet and capable president of the similarly defunct Cinema Club, proposes a solution to save both groups: a merger. Together, they form the Cinephoto Club, a new organization dedicated to exploring the natural beauty of their home base in Kofu, Yamanashi Prefecture.
The series follows the daily adventures of this small but determined club as they test various high-tech gadgets like action cameras and drones, capture stunning local scenery, and enjoy delicious regional cuisine. Their circle expands to include Kako Komada, a motovlogger and Haruno’s former classmate from Mie Prefecture, whose motorcycle journeys add a new dynamic to their outings. They also meet Torayo Kurokuma, a successful horror manga artist with a gothic lolita fashion sense and a genuine ability to communicate with the supernatural. The club’s activities often serve as research for Haruno’s manga, blurring the lines between their real-life excursions and her creative work. As they travel from wineries and charcuterie spots to urban legend sites and ice cream shops, the members of the Cinephoto Club work to keep their club alive while forging friendships and capturing the world through their lenses. The story takes place in the same universe as Afro’s other work Laid-Back Camp, with characters and locations from that series occasionally making cameo appearances.
