A hard-bitten Japanese private investigator, Happo Mitsuri, is hired by researcher Oosawagi Shirou to find the missing Doctor Hirgure. The Doctor had been developing a revolutionary self-replicating biochip called Gaso (Our Origin), capable of learning, memorization, and metamorphosis after gaining self-awareness. The project went awry, and both the biochip and the Doctor vanished. Happo travels to Australia with the Doctor's daughter, Eiko Hirgure, to unravel the mystery. As they dig deeper, they encounter a mysterious stranger, a sinister organization monitoring their every move, and a baffling connection to a mermaid. Meanwhile, the single word version begins appearing in databases around the world, hinting at the biochip's growing influence. The trail becomes increasingly tangled as Happo and Eiko race to find both the Doctor and the sentient chip before the organization can seize control of its terrifying potential.
