In Animal Town, where humans and animals live together in harmony, second-year junior high school student Iroha Inukai shares an especially close bond with her dog Komugi. One day, a mysterious creature called a Garugaru goes on a rampage through the city. Driven by her fierce desire to protect Iroha, Komugi transforms into a human for the first time and becomes a Pretty Cure known as Cure Wonderful. Shortly afterward, Iroha herself gains the power to transform into Cure Friendly, and together they learn that the Garugaru are corrupted inhabitants of a magical realm called Niko Garden. The realm was attacked by Gaou, a vengeful Japanese wolf spirit, who used the Niko Diamond to turn its peaceful animal residents into rampaging monsters. The Cures must purify the Garugaru and return them to Niko Garden, all while deepening the bonds between humans and animals. As the story progresses, they are joined by Yuki Nekoyashiki, a cat who becomes Cure Nyammy, and her shy owner Mayu, who becomes Cure Lillian. The manga adaptation, illustrated by Kamikita Futago, condenses key episodes from the anime while also featuring original stories. One notable original chapter explores a rift between Iroha and Komugi when Iroha seeks time alone, leading Komugi to seek advice from their friend Satoru. After a visit to an art gallery where Komugi’s doglike behavior causes friction, the two reconcile, reinforcing their mutual love and understanding.
