In a Tokyo where the lid of hell has opened and mononoke—malevolent spirits and monsters—roam freely, humanity’s last line of defense is the bond between a kannagi, a priestess with powerful spiritual energy, and a jinshi, a divine messenger who channels the strength of a guardian beast. Sai, a fierce and solitary young woman, lost her family to the mononoke as a child and has since trained to fight on the front lines despite her role as a supporter. Her partner is Kusune, a gentle and kind-hearted boy who carries the power of the Divine Wolf, a legendary and immensely strong guardian spirit. When Kusune calls upon the wolf’s power, his personality shifts dramatically, becoming aggressive and dangerously possessive—especially toward anyone who threatens Sai.

The two attend Tenkei High School, a special academy established in Tokyo to train jinshi and kannagi candidates from across the country. The school’s elite student council, led by the cunning Kitsune and including members like Tanukiya Daikichi and Nekoma Luna, oversees the most powerful students. Kusune consistently ranks first in the school’s ability tests, but his stamina is poor, requiring Sai’s spiritual support to sustain prolonged battles. Despite her own combat prowess, Sai’s reckless determination to protect Kusune often puts her in danger, straining their partnership.
