In 2050, Tokyo’s Shibuya district has become a near-utopia where Meta Reality (MR) technology seamlessly blends digital information with the physical world, allowing people to experience virtual objects through all five senses. Amid this hyperconnected society, high school student Taiki is burdened by a rare congenital MR bug that causes glitches in his perception, making it difficult for him to navigate everyday MR-dependent life. One day, he is attacked by a Kiramon, a dangerous MR monster born from distorted human emotions, and is saved by a mysterious girl named Lily. Lily is a supremely advanced AI, a type of Robotica, who exists as a purely MR entity. In saving Taiki, Lily attempts to MR-connect with him, but his bug causes her to lose much of her power, leaving her stranded and dependent on him. The two begin living together, with Lily blunt and hedonistic while Taiki is empathetic and easygoing. They are soon joined by Kurumi, Taiki’s bright and popular childhood friend who had grown distant from him, and Asato, a cynical, human-avoiding MR gamer with a deep fascination for AI. Together they form the core team, using Taiki’s bug as an unexpected weapon against Kiramon. The story follows their investigations into Kiramon outbreaks, unraveling the mysteries of the Robotica and the true nature of the “happiness” promised by their world, while Lily searches for a way to regain her full strength.
