Sanae Miyuki
Description
Sanae Miyuki is a Japanese voice actress born on April 2, 1959, in Fukushima Prefecture. She is affiliated with the talent management firm Tokyo Actor's Consumer's Cooperative Association. Her real name is Miyuki Tsukada, and she previously used the stage name Miyuki Muroi.
Miyuki pursued higher education at Musashino Women's University, now known as Musashino University, where she studied Japanese Literature. While in university, she also trained at the Tokyo Announcement Academy to pursue her goal of becoming a voice actor. In 1980, during her second year of college, she was selected as one of the top ten finalists from 20,000 applicants in a voice actor audition held by a Japanese radio station. This led to her becoming an 11th-generation trainee at the Tokyo Actor's Consumer's Cooperative Association. After a period of training with other industry figures, she joined the agency NPS Theatre.
Her professional debut came in 1982 when she landed major roles in two television anime series that aired that year: Shammy Milliome in The Super Dimension Fortress Macross and Rinze Eto in Tokimeki Tonight. Throughout the 1980s, she established herself as a prominent voice actress, taking on a wide variety of roles. Her first leading role was in the 1987 television anime Lady Lady!!, where she voiced the protagonist, Lynn Russell. She also voiced Mint Raburu in Genesis Climber Mospeada and Mome in The Super Dimension Century Orguss during this period.
In 1984, Miyuki transferred to the newly formed agency ARTSVISION and married the same year. She later moved to 81 Produce in 1986. In 1989, she adopted the stage name Sanae Miyuki, by which she is known today. She returned to the Tokyo Actor's Consumer's Cooperative Association in May 2012.
Miyuki is known for her soprano vocal range, which has allowed her to frequently portray young children and cute girl characters, though she has also taken on mature female and young boy roles throughout her long career. One of her most recognized and enduring roles is that of Botan in the popular anime series Yu Yu Hakusho, which began in 1992. Other notable roles from this period include Hotaru Fujino in Chimpui, Hyakume in Akuma-kun, and the title character in Yume no Hoshi no Button Nose.
Beyond television anime, her career has also encompassed work in original video animations (OVAs), animated films, and video games. Her OVA roles include Alpha in the New Dream Hunter Rem series, Kotetsu in Oedo wa Nemurenai!, and the character Nyan in the Cosmic Fantasy game and its associated OVA. She has also contributed her voice to foreign film and television dubs, as well as tokusatsu projects like Dokincho! Nemurin and Seijuu Sentai Gingaman.
Throughout her decades-long career, Miyuki has been recognized for her versatility and her warm, lively voice. Her interests include the traditional art of wearing kimono, and she has also obtained an insurance license.
