Reiko Katsura
Description
Reiko Katsura was a Japanese voice actress and narrator born on February 8, 1937, in Fukuoka Prefecture. She began her career with the KBC Troupe and the Bungaku-za Buzoku Engeki Kenkyūjo before joining the talent agency Haikyō in 1964, with which she was affiliated for the majority of her career. Katsura passed away on February 22, 2026, at the age of 89 due to respiratory failure caused by aspiration pneumonia.
Katsura was best known as the original voice of the character Ikura Namino, as well as Kaori Ōzora and Rika, in the long-running television anime Sazae-san. She was also the voice of O-Jirō in Shin Obake no Q-Taro and the small dice-shaped robot Omo-chama in the Yatterman series and its 1977 film adaptation. Her career was marked by numerous roles in classic anime of the 1960s and 1970s, often voicing young boys or girls. She played Sayo-chan in the 1975 television anime Ikkyū-san and its two side-story films, Ikkyū-san to Yancha-hime and Ikkyū-san: Haru da! Yancha-hime. Other notable roles included Alois in A Dog of Flanders, Kasumi in Cat Eyed Boy, Kiyoshi Shimizu in Fuku-chan, Harumi in Dororon Enma-kun, Beeton in Robokko Beeton, Lilith in Dracula: Sovereign Of The Damned, and Namino Daisuke in Akado Suzunosuke. Her filmography also included roles in Gegege no Kitarō, Kyojin no Hoshi, Mazinger Z, and a brief role as the narrator in the 2011 series Nichijou. In addition to anime, she performed dubbing work for foreign television, such as the role of Tabitha Stephens in the Japanese dub of Bewitched.
