Maria Luisa Sola

Description
Maria Luisa Sola is a Spanish actress primarily known for her extensive career in dubbing, providing voices for film, television, and animation in both Spanish and Catalan. Born in Barcelona on January 20, 1939, she studied at the Institute of Theater and began her professional career in the late 1950s. Over the decades, she has participated in thousands of dubbing projects, becoming one of the most recognized and familiar voices in Spanish-language dubbing.

While her work is overwhelmingly focused on dubbing live-action films and actresses, her filmography does include voice work for animated productions. In the 2020 anime film Josee, The Tiger and the Fish, she provided the voice for the character Chizu Yamamura in both the Spanish and Catalan dubs. Another anime credit is the film Panda no Daibōken, where she voiced the character of the Queen in the Spanish dub. Her other animation work includes the role of Mrs. Milligan in Chibikko Remi to Meiken Kapi, the narrator for A Dog of Flanders, and Sra. Willington in Hello! Sandybell. She has also worked on dubs of non-Japanese animation, such as the French series Ulysses 31.

Throughout her long career, Sola has been the regular Spanish dubbing voice for a vast array of major international actresses. This list includes, most notably, Sigourney Weaver for over 30 films beginning with Alien, as well as Susan Sarandon, Helen Mirren, Glenn Close, Diane Keaton, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia in the Star Wars saga, among many others. Her son, Sergio Zamora, is also a prominent dubbing actor.

In 2024, Sola received significant public recognition when actress Sigourney Weaver dedicated her Goya International Award to her, acknowledging her contribution to her performances in Spanish. In 2019, she was honored with the Actúa Award from the AISGE Foundation for her career achievements.
