Monica Estrada
Description
Mónica Estrada is a Mexican voice actor known for her extensive work in Latin American dubbing, particularly in anime and animated series during the 1990s and early 2000s. Her career is closely associated with the Mexican dubbing studio Audiomaster 3000, where she performed the majority of her roles, though she also worked with other studios like Procineas S.C.L.. After an initial period of regular work, Estrada moved to the United States, from where she continued to work in dubbing until approximately 2006. Following this, she made sporadic returns to the profession during visits to Mexico, taking on select roles.
Estrada is perhaps best recognized for her portrayal of Izzy Izumi (Koshiro Izumi) in the hit anime series Digimon Adventure, a role she originated in the first series. She voiced Izzy, the tech-savvy member of the DigiDestined, and also provided the voice for his Digimon partner, Tentomon, as well as Palmon. Her connection to the franchise proved enduring, as she returned to reprise the roles of both Izzy and Palmon decades later in the 2022 Latin American Spanish dub of the anniversary film Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna. Another of her iconic and long-running roles is Arale Norimaki for the first half of the Dr. Slump anime series. She also voiced the character Miyuki Shiratori in the OVA series Shuten Doji.
Beyond these roles, Estrada's filmography is vast and varied, encompassing a wide range of characters in numerous other anime series. Her credits include parts in Ranma 1/2 as Ran Ran and later as Nabiki Tendo in the OVAs, Ghost Sweeper Mikami, Those Who Hunt Elves, and the Mexican dubs of several Studio Ghibli films such as Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Porco Rosso, and Kiki's Delivery Service. Her voice was also featured in Dragon Ball Super, where she briefly reprised the role of Arale in 2017.
Estrada's voice was equally prominent in Western animation dubbed into Spanish. She is remembered as the first voice of Liliana "Lili" DeVille in Rugrats for its first six seasons, and as Connie Benge in Doug. She also provided voices for a multitude of other shows, including The Simpsons (as Rod Flanders in the first season and various additional voices), ¡Oye Arnold!, The Ren & Stimpy Show, Daria (as the first voice of Jodie Landon), and X-Men (as Jubilee). Her work also extended to live-action dubbing for films, lending her voice to characters played by actresses such as Angelina Jolie in Hackers, Claire Danes in The Power of One, and Kimberly Williams-Paisley in Father of the Bride, as well as for child characters in major films like Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Lost in Space.
