Run Sasaki

Description
Run Sasaki is the stage name of a veteran Japanese voice actress born on March 21, 1956, in Fukushima Prefecture. Her birth name is Yumiko Sasaki, and she is a graduate of Hosei University. She began her career in entertainment after winning first place in the first Japan Amateur Voice Actor Competition in 1979, which led to opportunities in radio dramas. Her debut as a voice actress in animation came the same year, with the role of Yukino-hime in the television anime Manga Sarutobi Sasuke. Her distinctive stage name, "Run," was suggested by a radio producer who was inspired by the title of a Tezuka Osamu manga, "Run wa Kaze no Naka".

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Sasaki became a prominent voice in anime, building a career with a wide range of roles. She is particularly well-known for her work in several major science fiction and adventure series of the era. Her roles from this period include Vanessa Laird in both The Super Dimension Fortress Macross television series and its film adaptation, The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love?. She also voiced Mimsy Rath in The Super Dimension Century Orguss and its related memorial release, Karla Egiel in Aoki Ryūsei SPT Layzner, Marlo Bonner, Jr. in Ginga Hyōryū Vifam, and Elle Hamn in Aura Battler Dunbine. Her film work also included a role in the 1983 movie Crusher Joe.

Sasaki's career continued through the 1990s with roles such as Yamato Kaoru in Yamato Takeru, Oren in the OVA Sword for Truth, and Jun in Violence Jack 3. She also appeared in television anime like YAWARA! and the 1994 series Mobile Fighter G Gundam. In addition to animation, her voice work extended to video games, most frequently in the Super Robot Wars series, where she reprised roles like Elle Hamn from Dunbine in various installments spanning from 1996 to 2015.

Beyond acting, Sasaki was also active in radio, hosting programs such as Suntory Run's Uchū Ongaku Ryokō and appearing in radio dramas. Around the year 2000, she relocated to the United States and settled in Seattle. There, she established Team Dreamcatchers, a voice actor training school where she serves as a producer, director, and writer. While living in the U.S., she continued to be involved in the voice acting industry, and for roles she was unable to reprise due to her location, other voice actors filled in for her. Her body of work from the 1980s and 1990s has left a lasting mark on several classic anime franchises.
