Shunsuke Shima

Shunsuke Shima was a Japanese actor and voice actor from Tokyo, born on January 21, 1932. He was active in the industry from the 1950s until his passing on November 11, 2003, and was affiliated with the talent management firm Aoni Production.

Throughout his extensive career, Shima built a substantial filmography, contributing voices to numerous television anime series, animated films, and OVAs from the 1960s into the early 2000s. Among his many television anime roles are Tsuburi in The Adventure of Gamba and Otters (Ganba no Bōken) from 1975, Commander Edwin in Invincible Steel Man Daitarn 3 (Muteki Kōjin Daitarn 3) from 1978, and Papa in the 1986 series Mr. Pen Pen. He also voiced Dr. Kenmochi in The Three-Eyed One in 1989, Jim Austin in Metal Armor Dragonar in 1987, and provided voices for characters in long-running franchises such as Detective Conan and Doraemon. Other noted roles include Sagara's Superior in the 1988 original video animation Dragon Century, Hideo Tanimura in Oishinbo, Hyoromatsu in Ashita no Joe, and Andreth in The Mysterious Cities of Gold.

His work also extended to theatrical films, with roles in notable productions such as Golgo 13: The Professional in 1983 and Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack in 1988. Beyond anime, Shima was active in dubbing foreign live-action and animated productions for Japanese audiences. A prominent example of this aspect of his career is providing the Japanese voice for Mayor Hamilton Hill in the animated series Batman: The Animated Series.

Throughout his decades of work, Shunsuke Shima collaborated frequently with many other voice actors, including Yūsaku Yara, Kōsei Tomita, Kazue Komiya, and Yoku Shioya. His career, spanning from the early days of television anime to the turn of the 21st century, left a broad legacy of character work across a wide variety of series and films.
