Takashi Ukaji
Description
Takashi Ukaji is a Japanese actor and voice artist, born on August 15, 1962, in Tokyo, Japan. While he is widely recognized for his extensive work in live-action television and film, he has also made notable contributions to anime and voice acting, often bringing his commanding presence to larger-than-life characters.
Ukaji's portrayal of Raoh, the primary antagonist and later anti-hero from the Fist of the North Star franchise, stands as a defining role in his voice acting career. He inherited this iconic role from the late Kenji Utsumi for a series of projects released in the late 2000s. His performance as the "King of the Fist" is featured prominently in the film series Shin Kyūseishu Densetsu Hokuto no Ken, also known as Fist of the North Star: The Legends of the True Savior. Within this multi-part series, Ukaji voiced Raoh in Toki-den, Yuria-den, and the two Raoh-centric films, Raoh-den Gekitō no Shō and Raoh-den Junai no Shō. He also voiced the character in the associated television series, Legends of the Dark King, which explores Raoh's backstory.
Beyond his definitive work in the Fist of the North Star universe, Ukaji's other voice roles include the Japanese-language dubbing of the titular hero in the animated series Samurai Jack. His distinctive, deep voice has also lent itself to narration work, such as in the 2023 documentary "Daichi yo: Ainu to shite Ikiru" (O Earth: Living as an Ainu). His career demonstrates a versatility that spans live-action tokusatsu series like Ultraman Gaia and Kamen Rider OOO, as well as animated features.
