Sal Jiang

Description
Sal Jiang is a Japanese manga creator known for writing and illustrating works within the yuri, or girls’ love, genre. Based in Osaka Prefecture, she has cultivated a strong following through her focus on romantic relationships between women. Her online presence and creative output have established her as a notable figure in contemporary yuri manga.

Her most prominent work is Ayaka is in Love with Hiroko, which was serialized in Futabasha’s web action magazine from June 2020 to March 2023 and compiled into three volumes. The series became the basis for a live-action television drama that aired in July 2024, with a sequel titled Ayaka is in Love with Hiroko 2nd Stage slated to begin broadcasting in June 2025. Sal Jiang is credited as the original creator for both television adaptations.

Beyond this series, her body of work includes Black and White: Tough Love at the Office, a story centered on two competitive colleagues. This series was later released in English by Seven Seas Entertainment as a complete omnibus collection. She also contributed to the yuri anthology Syrup NIGHT and published a collection of short stories titled SAL. In 2024, it was announced that she would launch a new series, Wicked Spot, under Kadokawa’s CandleA manga brand, which focuses on stories about marginalized existences and relationships.

Sal Jiang’s artistic identity is defined by her focus on adult women navigating complex professional and personal dynamics, often incorporating elements of workplace settings and intense emotional or physical connections. Her works frequently explore themes of rivalry, misunderstanding, and the nuances of queer relationships. Her ability to transition from web comic serialization to print publication and subsequent live-action adaptation highlights her significance in bringing yuri narratives to a broader mainstream audience.
