Gilles Laurent is a French actor and screenwriter, born Didier Schwartz on April 22, 1957, in France. He began his performance career at the age of thirteen as a television actor and received encouragement from the actor Pierre Fresnay to continue in the profession. In his early career, he appeared in approximately thirty television films, including leading roles in productions such as the serial Les Yeux Bleus and films directed by Serge Moati. He has also performed on stage in plays like La terre est ronde by Armand Salacrou.

In addition to his on-camera and stage work, Laurent has become well-known for his extensive voice dubbing work for television and animation. He is the regular French dubbing voice for the American actor Brian Austin Green, whom he has voiced in series such as Beverly Hills, 90210, Smallville, and the 2019 revival Beverly Hills: BH90210. He has also provided the French voice for other prominent television characters, including Steve Urkel in La Vie de famille and the title character in the animated series Mr. Bean.

Laurent's voice acting career encompasses numerous animated series, including several notable anime adaptations dubbed into French. He voiced the character Pierrot, the white blood cell, in the educational series Seimei no Kagaku Micro Patrol, which is known in French as Il était une fois... la Vie. He also took on the role of the knight Tristan de Leonois in the television dub of the anime Moero Arthur: Hakuba no Oji, which was broadcast in France as King Arthur. In the series Honoo no Alpen Rose: Judy & Randy, known in French as Julie et Stéphane, he voiced the character Stéphane Corto. His work in the franchise Legendary Armor Samurai Troopers, titled Les Samouraïs de l'éternel in French, included voicing the character Merlor. Other notable voice roles in anime and animation include Hyoga in the Saint Seiya film La Guerre des dieux, Rick Hunter in Robotech, Jayce in Jayce et les Conquérants de la lumière, Arthur in Babar, Noumaïos in Ulysse 31, and H.U.E. in the French dub of Final Space.

Parallel to his acting career, Gilles Laurent has also worked extensively as a screenwriter under his birth name, Didier Schwartz. He has co-written approximately fifteen feature films, including Bernie and Le Créateur with Albert Dupontel, as well as Le Ciel, les oiseaux et ta mère and Il était une fois dans l'Oued with Djamel Bensalah. He co-wrote music videos for the singer Mylène Farmer and contributed to the conception of her first Palais des sports performance. As a playwright, his work Rutabaga Swing received two nominations for the Molière Award in 2007.
