Description
Noumaïos is a supporting character in the animated series Ulysses 31. He is a Zotrian teenager, approximately seventeen years old, and the older brother of Yumi, also known as Thémis. Like all Zotrians, he has blue skin, snow-white hair, pointed ears, and slanted eyes with vertical pupils. He possesses telepathic abilities, which allow him to share a deep mental link with his sister. Noumaïos is gentle-natured, trustworthy, and loyal. His primary motivation is tied to his bond with his sister; she is devoted to freeing him from the curse that traps him. Noumaïos first appears when he and Yumi are captured by worshippers of the Cyclops and held for sacrifice. Ulysses rescues them, but after the Cyclops is destroyed, Zeus punishes Ulysses by freezing most of the crew, including Noumaïos, in a state of suspended animation. For the majority of the series, Noumaïos remains frozen aboard the Odyssey, unable to move or speak. He only escapes this torpor in a handful of episodes, usually when his mental connection with Yumi is activated or when the spaceship nears the planet Zotra. During these brief awakenings, he can communicate telepathically and assist Ulysses and the children with guidance or insight. His frozen state serves as a constant emotional anchor for Yumi, who longs to restore him to life. His role in the story is primarily that of a tragic figure whose presence motivates the search for a way to break the curse, and his occasional awakenings provide crucial help. Noumaïos does not undergo significant character development over the series, as his condition remains unchanged until the final resolution. His notable abilities include telepathy and a strong extrasensory link with his sister, which transcend physical distance.
