Marcy Goldberg

Description
Marcy Goldberg is a Canadian voice actress based in Vancouver, recognized for her extensive work in anime dubbing, animated series, and video games from the late 1980s through the 2000s. She is known for her distinctively deep and raspy voice, a quality that initially posed a challenge in her early theatre training but ultimately became a defining characteristic of her career in voice-over work.

Goldberg's path to voice acting began with her education in theatre at Langara College's Studio 58 program. While her instructors viewed her husky voice as a potential obstacle for stage performance, it caught the attention of a lecturer in radio drama, who suggested it would be well-suited for the medium. This led to regular work in CBC radio dramas before she expanded into commercials and animation.

In the realm of anime, Goldberg is frequently associated with the Vancouver-based Ocean Productions dub of the Silent Möbius series. She voiced the role of Rally Cheyenne in both the theatrical features, including Silent Möbius: The Motion Picture and Silent Möbius: The Motion Picture 2. She also provided voices for the television series, playing Nana Yamaigumo. Another notable early anime role was Daisy in the English adaptation of the Dragon Warrior anime, a part she discussed in a podcast interview reflecting on the series.

Her anime filmography includes a wide range of other credits. She appeared in the English version of the long-running series Gintama as Asagi, and in Mobile Suit Gundam Wing as Hilde. Additional voice work in the medium includes roles in Funky Fables as Arabella, Tenamonya Voyagers as Paraila, Trouble Chocolate as the Cafeteria Lady, and Human Crossing as Tomiko Wakabayashi.

Beyond anime, Goldberg built a prolific career voicing characters in numerous Western animated productions. She was a main cast member on the series Extreme Dinosaurs, providing the voice of Dr. Rebecca 'Becky' Scarwell. She also had a recurring role as Auntie Applesauce in the popular series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Her work extended to the Bratz franchise, where she voiced characters such as Madame Demidov in Bratz Girlz Really Rock and the Wicked Queen in Bratz Kidz Fairy Tales. Other animation credits include Miss Tuliptree in Little Witch and Margery in Kleo the Misfit Unicorn.

Goldberg's career also encompassed live-action television and film, with appearances in productions like The NeverEnding Story III, My Boss's Daughter, Dreamcatcher, and the television series The Outer Limits. She was also highly active in the video game industry, lending her voice to titles such as Scarface: The World Is Yours and Empire Earth, often portraying villainous characters. In addition to her performance work, Goldberg has shared her expertise by teaching others about the voice-over business.
