Ginzo Matsuo was a Japanese voice actor born on December 26, 1951, in Nakatsu, Oita Prefecture. His birth name was Koichi Matsuo. He was affiliated with the talent management firm Aoni Production for much of his career, and in 1997, he established his own agency, Gin Production.

Matsuo was known for his distinctive voice, often portraying older, comedic, or eccentric characters. Among his most recognized roles were Hemu-Hemu, the pet weasel in the long-running series Nintama Rantarō, and Ginnosuke Nohara, the grandfather in Crayon Shin-chan, a role he originated. His career was extensive, with numerous credits in anime television series and films throughout the 1980s and 1990s.

His filmography includes the specific roles noted by the user, confirming his wide range of character work. He voiced Danbei, the principal of St. Chapel Academy, in Cutey Honey Flash. He played Doka in the series Biriken. He was the voice of Seiuchin in the 2001 movie Kinnikuman Nisei - Second Generations. He voiced Kagairo in the 1990 OVA Sword for Truth. He also voiced the character Rekkin-kun in the 1996 anime film Ultraman Company Kochira Ulkan Tokusō-tai de-su!.

Beyond these, Matsuo built a substantial body of work, taking on parts in many popular and influential series. His credits include a hapless farmer in the first episode of Dragon Ball Z, roles in the Sailor Moon series, Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie as Dee Jay, Ghost in the Shell, Mobile Suit Victory Gundam, and the role of Captain Smoker in the early episodes of One Piece, which was one of his final roles. He also provided voices for the Japanese dub of the film Thomas and the Magic Railroad.

Ginzo Matsuo passed away on August 25, 2001, from a subarachnoid hemorrhage at the age of 49. Following his death, several of his prominent roles were taken over by other voice actors, including Mahito Oba as Captain Smoker in One Piece and Cho as Ginnosuke Nohara in Crayon Shin-chan.
