Morio Kazama

Morio Kazama is a Japanese actor and voice actor born in Tokyo on April 26, 1949. He began his entertainment career as a child actor, and his first credited voice role was in the 1963 Toei Animation film The Little Prince and the Eight-Headed Dragon, in which he voiced the protagonist, the god Susano'o no Mikoto, under his birth name, Tomohito Sumita. He is also known for providing the voice of the young Zushio Maru in the 1961 animated film The Littlest Warrior, with the role of the adult Zushio Maru voiced by another actor. His career has spanned both live-action performance and voice acting for animation.
Kazama's voice work includes the title role of Hikaru Genji in the 1987 animated film The Tale of Genji. In his later career, he contributed to a film by the renowned Studio Ghibli, voicing the character Satomi in Hayao Miyazaki's The Wind Rises in 2013. His voice acting credits also extend to television anime, such as the character Urabe in the 2005-2006 series Akagi. Beyond anime, he is well-known in Japan for dubbing the voice of Fox Mulder, originally played by David Duchovny, in the Japanese-language broadcast of the television series The X-Files.
Kazama is highly acclaimed for his work as a live-action film and stage actor. He won the award for Best Supporting Actor at the Japan Academy Film Prize twice, in 1983 for the film Fall Guy and again in 1984. In 2021, he was honored with the 46th Kikuta Kazuo Theater Award for his stage performances. For his contributions to the arts, he was decorated with the Medal of Honor with Dark Blue Ribbon in 2023.
