Ulla Wagener is a German actress and voice synchronisation speaker, born on October 7, 1968, in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Her path to performance began with a state-recognised dance education in her hometown, which led her to London and Vienna. She formally studied acting at the Conservatory of the City of Vienna from 1989 to 1992, graduating with a state diploma. Concurrent with her acting studies, she also trained her voice at the Theater an der Wien, completing her vocal education at the Georg Friedrich Händel Conservatory in Halle in 1995.
Her career is deeply rooted in theatre, where she was a permanent ensemble member at the New Theatre in Halle until 1996 and has since performed on numerous stages across German-speaking countries. Alongside her stage work, she has appeared in various television productions, with credits including SOKO 5113, Der Alte, and Polizeiruf 110.
Wagener has been active in voice acting since the 1990s and is particularly well-known to anime fans for her extensive work in the genre. One of her signature roles from this decade is Setsuna Meiou, also known as Sailor Pluto, in the German-language versions of the Sailor Moon anime series and films, including Sailor Moon R, S, SuperS, and Sailor Stars. Her involvement in the franchise continued later with the role of Koan in Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal.
