Waldir Fiori was a Brazilian actor and voice actor with a career spanning over six decades in radio, theater, television, and dubbing. He was born Waldir de Andrade Fiori on December 12, 1926, in Salvador, Bahia, and passed away on January 16, 2013, in Rio de Janeiro. Fiori began his artistic career in 1950 on Rádio Cultura da Bahia, later moving to Recife and then to Rio de Janeiro in 1955, where he worked for prominent radio stations like Rádio Nacional. He also had an active stage career, performing in numerous theater productions throughout the 1950s and 1960s, and appeared in Brazilian films such as Cinco Vezes Favela and Independência ou Morte.
Fiori entered the field of dubbing in the late 1950s, eventually becoming one of Brazil's most respected voice artists and dubbing directors. Over his long career, he worked with numerous dubbing studios, including Herbert Richers, Delart, and Double Sound, among others. He was also a pioneering dubbing director, notably responsible for opening the first public auditions for voice actors at Herbert Richers in 1974.
While Fiori voiced a vast array of characters across live-action films and television series, he had several notable roles in anime and animation. Among his most recognized works are the character Chang Changku, known as Cyborg 006, in the series Cyborg 009 The Cyborg Soldier. He also voiced Mitsunari Tokugawa in the 1994 anime special O Último Combate, part of the Grappler Baki franchise. Fiori was the voice of Dr. Finkelstein in the Brazilian Portuguese redub of Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. His other animated voice roles included Epaminondas in A Casa Monstro, the Chief in The Fox and the Hound and its sequel, and Cotton Hill in the first season of King of the Hill.
Beyond these roles, Fiori's work was ubiquitous in Brazilian popular culture. He was the voice of Jaiminho, the Mailman, in the animated series El Chavo Animado. He was also the regular Brazilian Portuguese voice for actor Michael Gough as Alfred Pennyworth in the Batman films of the 1990s, and for actor David Bradley as Argus Filch in the Harry Potter series. He provided voices for numerous classic Disney films, including Mogli - O Menino Lobo, The Aristocats, Robin Hood, The Rescuers, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. His long and prolific career left a significant mark on the art of dubbing in Brazil.
