Jocelyne Loewen
Description
Jocelyne Loewen is a Canadian actress known for her extensive work in voice acting, particularly in English dubs of anime series produced in Vancouver, Canada. Born in Alberta in 1976, she began her career in the late 1990s and has been active in the industry for over two decades. In addition to her voice work, she has also appeared in live-action television shows such as Stargate SG-1, The 4400, The Dead Zone, and Eureka.
Loewen is closely associated with Ocean Productions, a prominent Vancouver-based voice actor pool, and has built a reputation for voicing characters who are often described as spunky young girls. Among her most recognized anime roles are Milfeulle Sakuraba in the Galaxy Angel franchise, Merle in The Vision of Escaflowne, and Yai Ayano in MegaMan NT Warrior.
Her role as Milfeulle Sakuraba, the cheerful and incredibly lucky pink-haired member of the Angel Troupe, is one of her most enduring performances. She voiced the character across multiple installments of the series, including Galaxy Angel, Galaxy Angel A, Galaxy Angel Z, Galaxy Angel S, and Galaxy Angel X. This character is a central figure in the franchise, known for her selfless nature and her hobby of making tea and snacks for her friends.
Another significant role is that of Komugi Nakahara, the hyperactive cosplay idol who transforms into the titular heroine in the OVA series Nurse Witch Komugi. This role was notable as a spin-off parody of the series The SoulTaker, and ADV Films made a concerted effort to recall the voice actors from the Ocean Group dub of The SoulTaker to reprise their roles in Nurse Witch Komugi, ensuring consistency between the two dubs. Loewen also voiced the same character, Komugi Nakahara, in The SoulTaker itself.
Loewen's filmography includes a wide range of other anime roles. She voiced Junko Ejima in The Daichis - Earth's Defence Family, Merle in the Ocean Group dub of The Vision of Escaflowne, Quess Paraya in Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack, and Asagi Caldwell in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED. She also provided voices for characters in popular long-running series such as Hamtaro, InuYasha, and Ranma ½. In a later role, she voiced the character Kagura in the English dub of Gintama°. Beyond anime, Loewen is also known to a wider audience as the voice of Penny Ling in the children's animated series Littlest Pet Shop.
Throughout her career, Jocelyne Loewen has demonstrated a consistent presence in the Canadian anime dubbing industry, contributing her voice to a multitude of characters across a variety of genres and becoming a familiar presence to fans of anime from the 2000s era.
