Jan Rabson was an American actor and voice actor known for his extensive work in animation, including significant contributions to English-language dubs of anime. He was born on June 14, 1954, in East Meadow, New York, and died on October 13, 2022.
Rabson began his career in Los Angeles in the late 1970s, where he performed in improvisational theatre and became a member of the Groundlings. He also spent many years as a performer on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, appearing as part of the Mighty Carson Art Players. His voice was featured in thousands of commercials, television shows, and films over a four-decade career.
In the realm of anime dubbing, Rabson is perhaps best known for voicing the character Tetsuo Shima in the Streamline Pictures English dub of the landmark 1988 film Akira. For this role and some of his other anime and on-camera work, he used the pseudonym Stanley Gurd, Jr.. His other notable anime credits include the role of Kuruku in the film Unico in the Island of Magic and the character Tubby in the Harmony Gold dub of the Little Lulu television series.
