Nelson Machado

Description
Nelson Machado is a highly regarded Brazilian voice actor, director, and radio personality with a career spanning over five decades. He was born Nelson Machado Filho in São Paulo, Brazil, on January 14, 1954, into a family of performers; his father was an actor and radio personality, and his mother was also an actress and voice actress. His entry into the world of dubbing began in his youth, accompanying his mother to dubbing studios, and he started his professional career in 1968 at the age of 14. He began as a dubbing technician at the now-defunct Arte Industrial Cinematográfica (AIC) in São Paulo before transitioning to voice acting.

While he is celebrated for a vast body of work that includes dubbing live-action actors and animated characters across all media, his voice is arguably most iconic in Brazil for his long-running portrayal of Quico (Kiko), the character played by Carlos Villagrán in the beloved sitcom "Chaves" (El Chavo del Ocho). He voiced the character for many years, becoming the definitive voice of Quico for Brazilian audiences, and returned to the role in 2018 for airings on the Multishow channel.

In the realm of animation and anime, his career includes a wide range of significant roles. He voiced the character Sargento Pedro Gonzales in the anime series "Kaiketsu Zorro". His other notable anime and animation credits include Jaken in the early episodes of "InuYasha," Caronte de Aqueronte in "Os Cavaleiros do Zodíaco" (Saint Seiya), Gaimon in "One Piece," Blanka in "Street Fighter II V," and the title character in "Darkwing Duck". He also provided the voice for the character Glomer in the animated series "Punky". Beyond anime, his work extended to dubbing characters in live-action films and series, where he became the official Brazilian voice for actors such as Robin Williams, Wesley Snipes, and Roberto Benigni. He also voiced the possessed doll Chucky in several installments of the "Brinquedo Assassino" (Child's Play) film series.

Beyond performing, Machado has also worked as a dubbing director, contributing to projects like the anime series "Street Fighter II V" and various OVAs for the Locomotion channel. He is also an author, having written books about his experiences in the dubbing world, including "Versão Brasileira," which shares behind-the-scenes stories from the industry. In his later career, he has remained active, hosting a YouTube vlog called "Papo Com o Machado". He has also contributed his voice to more contemporary projects, such as singing for the character Plankton in the Brazilian dub of the "Bob Esponja" (SpongeBob SquarePants) franchise.
