Chris Hilton

Description
Chris Hilton was a voice actor known for his work in English-language dubs of Japanese and Hong Kong films, particularly active from the early 1970s through the 1990s. His career was primarily based in Hong Kong, where he became a prominent figure in the dubbing industry. Prior to his voice acting career, Hilton studied medicine at Cambridge University in the early 1960s and played double bass for the Cambridge Footlights. He later moved to Hong Kong, where he became the head of English Radio and hosted his own jazz program, as well as the television series "Here and Now".

Hilton's entry into dubbing likely occurred through his connection with Ted Thomas, working for Thomas's company, Axis International, from the early 1970s until it disbanded in the mid-1980s. Following this, he joined Omni Productions, where he continued voice acting until the late 1990s. He is most recognized for providing the English voice of Godo Shingo in the 1980 animated film Phoenix 2772, also known as Space Firebird. His other notable voice roles from this period include Fumio Sudo in Godzilla vs. Gigan, Chien Fu in The Snake in the Eagle's Shadow, and Yang Tieh in The Five Deadly Venoms. He also provided voices for later Godzilla films, such as Godzilla vs. Biollante and Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah.

Hilton's career was marked by recurring collaborations with dubbing directors and studios in Hong Kong. He worked extensively with Ted Thomas at Axis International, a key player in dubbing Asian cinema for international audiences. After Axis International disbanded, he continued this work at Omni Productions, often alongside other prominent English-language voice actors based in Hong Kong. His final voice role was for the character Emperor Keikou in the film Yamato Takeru. Chris Hilton passed away in either 2005 or 2006 in Corsham, England.
