David Stokey
Description
David Stokey is an American voice actor known for his work in English dubs of Japanese anime series and original video animations, primarily during the late 1990s and early 2000s. His career is closely associated with productions licensed and dubbed by ADV Films, a Houston-based company that was a major distributor of anime in North America at the time.
Stokey's voice acting roles are predominantly in action and science fiction genres. One of his most frequently cited roles is Leon Links in the 2001 television series Zone of the Enders: Dolores. In this series, he voiced the young son of the protagonist, James Links, who becomes a fugitive alongside his family and a powerful artificial intelligence. He also took on leading roles in several OVAs from the mid-to-late 1990s. He provided the voice for the protagonist Hibio in the supernatural comedy Tattoon Master (1996) and for the loud and brash ninja Shishimaru in the ultraviolent feudal Japan tale Black Lion (1992). In the mecha genre, he voiced the character Go in the landmark OVA series Getter Robo: Armageddon (1998-1999).
In addition to these lead roles, Stokey performed in adaptations of popular video games. He voiced the character Lee Chaolan, the flamboyant adoptive brother of Kazuya Mishima, in the English dub of Tekken: The Motion Picture (1997). He also had a role in the fighting game adaptation Variable Geo (1996-1997), where he voiced a monstrous version of the character Damian, credited as Mutated Damian.
His body of work reveals a pattern of recurring collaborations with other voice actors and crew members prominent in the Houston-area anime dubbing scene. He frequently worked alongside actors such as Charles C. Campbell, Katherine Catmull, and Robert Rudie in multiple productions, including Variable Geo, Getter Robo: Armageddon, and Zone of the Enders. His performances, particularly the shouted and energetic portrayal of Shishimaru in Black Lion, have been noted by reviewers as a memorable aspect of the productions in which he appeared.
