Demon Kogure

Description
Demon Kogure, also known as Demon Kakka, is a Japanese entertainer whose voice acting career is intrinsically linked to his long-standing public persona as a demon. Born on November 10, 1962, in Tokyo, he first gained prominence in the 1980s as the lead vocalist of the influential heavy metal band Seikima-II. Before his music career, he attended an acting school in Tokyo between 1982 and 1983 and graduated from Waseda University with a degree in social science in 1986. His voice acting roles are relatively selective and often connected to his established image, with notable performances in anime and original video animations.

One of his most prominent voice roles is in the 1992 original video animation Seikima II Humane Society - Jinruiai ni Michita Shakai. In this production, he voices the character H.E. Demon Kogure, a fictionalized version of his own stage persona. The OVA serves as a fantastical origin story for his band, depicting its members as literal demons from another dimension who abandon their plot to destroy humanity in favor of forming a rock band. Beyond providing the voice for the lead character, Demon Kogure was also involved as the original concept creator and supervisor for this project.

Another significant early voice acting credit is his role as Münchhausen II in the Urotsukidōji II: Legend of the Demon Womb, appearing in both the 1990 OVA and the 1993 movie version. This series is part of a well-known adult anime franchise. These early roles established a pattern of him voicing demonic or otherworldly characters, a natural extension of his musical identity.

His voice acting work has also extended into live-action tokusatsu productions. In the 2012 film Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider Wizard & Fourze: Movie War Ultimatum, he voiced the villainous character Zatan. The casting was noted as intentional, with the production seeking a "real demon" for the role, directly referencing Demon Kogure's public image. He also contributed to the film by writing and performing its theme song, "Forest of Rocks".

In a role that connects his voice acting work with his well-known expertise in sumo wrestling, Demon Kogure provided the voice for Dr. Tetsuji Kanie in the 2018 anime adaptation of the sumo-themed series Hinomaru Sumo. He is a renowned sumo commentator and enthusiast, often providing analysis for broadcasts, which made this casting particularly fitting. More recently, his distinctive voice and persona were featured in the 2023 video game Street Fighter 6, where he served as a real-time commentator for fights, adding a unique layer of personality to the game's presentation.

Throughout his career, Demon Kogure's contributions to anime and related media are not limited to voice acting. He has frequently performed theme songs for various series. His discography includes theme songs for the anime adaptations of Terraformars and Maze, as well as the OVA Wanna-Be's, in which he also voiced a character. In 2020, he collaborated with Arika Takarano to perform the opening theme for the anime The 8th Son? Are You Kidding Me?. His achievements in the broader entertainment industry have been recognized with honors outside of voice acting, such as being appointed an ambassador for good medical care by Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare in 2019.
