Description
Skip Stellrecht is an American voice and television actor known for his extensive work in anime dubbing, particularly for the character Might Guy in the Naruto franchise. Born Henry M. Stellrecht on May 9, 1958, he was raised in Orange County, California. Initially more focused on surfing, sports, and music during his youth, he discovered an interest in acting after graduating from high school. His career began with commercial work, which led him to study under acting teachers in Hollywood. He secured various stage roles in the Los Angeles area and was a founding member of the Friends and Artist Theatre Ensemble.
Stellrecht's entry into voice acting occurred accidentally through a friend, but it became a significant and successful part of his career. To navigate voice-over work, he has used several pseudonyms over the years, including Jack Aubree, Henry Douglas Grey, Hank Malloy, Hank Smith, and Hank Wilspank.
He is perhaps best recognized for his long-running portrayal of the passionate and powerful Might Guy in both the Naruto and Naruto: Shippūden anime series, a role he also reprised in numerous related video games and animated films. Another prominent early role was providing the English voice for the iconic character Ryu in the Animaze dub of the Street Fighter II V television series, as well as in the films Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie and Street Fighter Alpha: The Animation. He also voiced the antagonist Vicious in the seminal series Cowboy Bebop, under the pseudonym Henry Douglas Grey. His filmography includes the role of Ross Sylibus in Armitage: Dual-Matrix and the voice of Red Hakaider in Kikaider-01: The Animation. Additional anime credits span a wide range of series, including roles in Marmalade Boy (as Satoshi Miwa), Great Teacher Onizuka, Wolf's Rain (as Zali), Digimon Data Squad (as Gaomon and its evolutions), and Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion.
Beyond anime, Stellrecht's voice can be heard in live-action television shows such as Mr. Robot, Grimm, and Once Upon a Time, often as part of ADR loop groups. He has also contributed voices to numerous video games. Among his many game credits, he has cited his role as Jutah Fate in the game Silent Bomber as a personal favorite.
