Description
Might Guy is a jōnin of Konohagakure, the Hidden Leaf Village, and a master of taijutsu, the art of hand-to-hand combat. He leads Team Guy, consisting of Rock Lee, Neji Hyuga, and Tenten, and is known for his distinctive appearance: a green jumpsuit, a bowl-cut hairstyle, and thick eyebrows. Guy was born to Might Duy, a genin who never rose in rank and was nicknamed the Eternal Genin. Duy was a cheerful and optimistic man who believed in the power of youth and hard work, and he passed these values to his son. Despite lacking talent in ninjutsu and genjutsu, Guy dedicated himself entirely to taijutsu, following in his father’s footsteps. He trained relentlessly to overcome his limitations, eventually becoming one of the most powerful taijutsu users in the series.

Guy’s personality is exuberant, passionate, and deeply sentimental. He frequently speaks about youth, often crying tears of joy or encouragement. He uses phrases like the fire of youth and constantly challenges himself and others to push beyond their limits. This outward enthusiasm hides a serious and disciplined core; he is a perceptive and loyal ninja who values his comrades above all. His motivation stems from a desire to prove that even someone who cannot use ninjutsu or genjutsu can stand among the strongest through sheer effort and determination. This personal philosophy drives him to mentor Rock Lee, a student who shares the same difficulties, and to instill in him the belief that hard work can surpass innate talent.

In the story, Guy serves as a mentor and father figure to his team, especially to Rock Lee. He also acts as a steadfast ally and rival to Kakashi Hatake, whom he calls his eternal rival. Their relationship is one of mutual respect and friendly competition, with Guy constantly challenging Kakashi to contests and pushing him to improve. Guy plays a key role in several major arcs. He helps defend the village during the Chunin Exams invasion, assists in the rescue of Gaara, and fights against members of the Akatsuki. His most significant contribution comes during the Fourth Shinobi World War, where he confronts the reincarnated Madara Uchiha. Aware that conventional attacks are useless, Guy opens all Eight Inner Gates, a forbidden taijutsu technique that grants immense power at the cost of the user’s life. He unleashes techniques like Evening Elephant and Night Guy, landing blows that even Madara acknowledges as near-fatal. After the battle, Guy is saved by Naruto Uzumaki using Six Paths power, but his left leg is crushed, and he is permanently confined to a wheelchair.

Guy’s development traces his journey from an overlooked student to a legendary taijutsu master. He learns the Eight Inner Gates from his father and later teaches them to Rock Lee, entrusting him with the same dangerous knowledge. His growth is marked by his willingness to sacrifice everything for his beliefs and for his friends. In the sequel series Boruto, although physically impaired, Guy remains a cheerful and supportive presence, still embodying the spirit of youth.

His notable abilities revolve around the Eight Inner Gates, which sequentially remove the body’s natural limiters. Each gate grants greater strength and speed but inflicts increasing damage. With the first five gates, Guy can perform the Primary Lotus and Reverse Lotus. The sixth gate allows the Morning Peacock, a flurry of punches so fast they ignite the air. The seventh gate enables the Daytime Tiger, a compressed air blast. The eighth gate, the Gate of Death, grants power that rivals the strongest beings in the series, enabling the Evening Elephant and the Night Guy, a kick that bends space itself. Guy also wields nunchaku and summons a giant turtle named Ningame for transportation. Though he rarely uses ninjutsu, he has some proficiency with fire and lightning techniques and can dispel high-level genjutsu through willpower.
