Ferruccio Amendola

Description
Ferruccio Amendola was an influential Italian actor and voice actor, born in Turin on July 22, 1930, and passing away in Rome on September 3, 2001. While he had a successful career as a film and television actor, he became most renowned for his prolific and pioneering work in dubbing, particularly for providing the official Italian voice for some of Hollywood's biggest stars.

In the realm of anime and animated features, Amendola contributed his voice to several Italian-dubbed versions of Japanese productions during the early 1970s. Among his notable anime roles is the character Tortuga in the 1970 Toei Animation film Kaitei Sanman Mile, released in Italy as 30.000 miglia sott'acqua, a title inspired by, but featuring an original story not directly based on, Jules Verne's work. He also voiced the dog Capi in the 1970 film Chibikko Remi to Meiken Kapi, known in Italy as Senza famiglia, an adaptation of Hector Malot's novel Sans Famille. Additionally, his voice work included the role of Goro in an adaptation of Fables from Hans Christian Andersen, and he later provided the voice for Denti di Ghiaccio in the 1999 film The Legend of the Titanic.

Amendola's approach to dubbing was characterized by its naturalism and emotional depth. He is credited with helping to pioneer a more authentic style of voice acting in Italy, moving away from a more formal or theatrical delivery. This skill made him the go-to voice for method actors like Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman, and Sylvester Stallone for the majority of their most famous roles. He was also the regular Italian voice for actor Tomas Milian in a popular series of Italian poliziotteschi films.

His career in dubbing began in the late 1940s, and he dedicated himself to it almost exclusively from 1968 onwards. He worked for decades with the Cooperativa Doppiatori Cinematografici (CDC) and, after its closure in 1994, founded his own company, Compagnia Doppiatori, where he continued to work until his death. Through his extensive body of work, Ferruccio Amendola left an indelible mark on Italian cinema and became a household name, with his voice being as recognizable as the faces of the international stars he dubbed.
