Tonpei Hidari

Tonpei Hidari was a Japanese actor and voice actor, born on May 30, 1937, in Tokyo. His career was primarily focused on live-action performance in film and television, though he is also credited with voice work in animation.

One of his notable contributions to anime was providing the voice for the narrator in the 1974 animated feature film Jack and the Beanstalk. In this Japanese production, he also performed songs for the film's soundtrack. His other voice credits are not widely documented, as his career was largely built on on-screen roles.

Hidari's acting career spanned several decades, beginning in the 1960s. He appeared in numerous television dramas, including a long-running role on the series Female Coroner Muroo Akiko, which began in 1986. He also gained international recognition for his role as Pigsy in the popular 1970s television series Monkey, a live-action adaptation of the Chinese classic Journey to the West. His film work includes a role in the 1983 Palme d'Or-winning film The Ballad of Narayama. Tonpei Hidari passed away on February 24, 2018.
