His path to acting was not direct; after his schooling, he trained as a visual merchandiser and worked as a graphic designer and editor. In 1996, he went to New York City as an au pair, where he also attended a drama school in Hoboken, New Jersey. Upon returning to Berlin, he worked as a singer, lyricist, and musician before establishing himself as an actor.

In the realm of voice acting, David provides the German voice for characters in animation, live-action dubbing, and video games. Beyond anime, a significant achievement in his dubbing career began in 2016 when he became the regular German voice of actor Mike Colter. This has included voicing Colter's portrayal of Luke Cage in the Marvel Netflix series Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and The Defenders. His voice can also be heard in numerous other film and television dubs, including characters in Riverdale, The Revenant, and Assassin's Creed. In the video game industry, David's voice is featured in major titles such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Gotham Knights.
