Emmanuel Karsen, born Emmanuel Bourdeaux on March 23, 1963, was a French actor widely recognized for his extensive work in dubbing, particularly for providing the French voices of numerous international stars and anime characters. He passed away on September 11, 2025, at the age of 62. Coming from a family with deep roots in the performing arts, he was the grandson of Mado Maurin, the nephew of actors including Patrick Dewaere, and the cousin of Lola Dewaere.

Karsen's career in dubbing was prolific and highly respected. He was perhaps best known in the anime community for his iconic role as the voice of the shinigami Ryuk in the French adaptation of the highly popular series Death Note. This performance cemented his status among French fans of Japanese animation. His other notable anime roles include Luca in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind and Kizaru in the film One Piece Film: Z.

He also contributed his voice to a wide range of animated films and series, such as Duke Weaselton in the French dub of Zootopie. In live-action dubbing, Karsen was the regular French voice for actors like Sean Penn and Norman Reedus, and he frequently dubbed John Leguizamo, Steve Buscemi, and Ian Tracey, among many others. His work extended to video games, where he voiced characters in major titles such as Sam Porter Bridges in Death Stranding and roles in the Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell series. He was also a member of a band called Les Heroics.

In addition to his voice work, Emmanuel Karsen appeared as an on-screen actor in French cinema and television for several decades, with credits including the series Highlander and films like Héroïnes and Le Couteau sous la gorge. He also worked as a dialogue director for dubbing projects.
