Description
Dominik Auer is a German voice actor, dialogue director, and dialogue writer, born on January 28, 1976, in Munich. His career in voice acting began early, with his first roles in film, television, and radio dating back to 1986. He pursued formal training in his craft, studying acting, directing, and screenwriting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York from 1996 to 1998. Auer has also worked extensively as a dialogue book author since 1997 and as a dialogue director since 2001, contributing to the German-language versions of numerous live-action films and series as well as animated productions. Beyond his work in animation and series, he has been a station voice for the German television channels ProSieben and Sat.1 since 2009.
Auer has lent his voice to a wide array of characters in Japanese anime, demonstrating considerable range. He is perhaps best known to anime fans for voicing the title character, Inuyasha, in the long-running series InuYasha and its subsequent films and sequel. Another significant early role was as the character Clay in Candidate for Goddess. He has also been a prominent voice in the Sailor Moon franchise, providing the German voice for Mamoru Chiba, also known as Tuxedo Mask, across multiple series and films.
In more recent productions, Auer has taken on leading roles in critically acclaimed series. He voices the protagonist Sakaido, whose real name is Akihito Narihisago, in the psychological mystery anime ID: INVADED. This role was part of a German adaptation produced at alpha Postproduktion in Munich under the dialogue direction of Daniel Schlauch. He also voices the character Crocco in the fantasy adventure series Drifting Dragons. Another of his noted anime roles is D'Artagnan, the lead character in the 1987 anime series Anime Sanjushi (D'Artagnan und die drei Musketiere).
His body of work in anime encompasses a variety of other titles and characters. These include Tsuchigomori in Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun, Julius Belkisk Harwey in Fate/Extra Last Encore, Zangulus in The Slayers and The Slayers Next, and multiple roles in the Pokémon anime, such as Bill and various characters. He has also contributed to anime films, providing voices for Lee Sampson in Cowboy Bebop: The Movie and Tadashi Doi in Perfect Blue. In addition to his voice roles, Auer has also served as a dubbing director for the German versions of the InuYasha series, including InuYasha: The Final Act.
While Auer is not exclusively tied to a single Japanese actor, he has frequently provided the German voice for the work of several, most notably Kappei Yamaguchi as Inuyasha and Tōru Furuya as Mamoru Chiba/Tuxedo Mask. His work as a dialogue director also represents a significant behind-the-scenes contribution, shaping the final German performances for numerous productions. His direction on the fantasy series Legend of the Seeker – Das Schwert der Wahrheit earned him the Silhouette Award for Best Series Dialogue Direction in 2010.
