Nana Mori
Description
Nana Mori is a Japanese actress and singer who has also gained recognition for her work in anime voice acting. She was born in Osaka Prefecture on August 31, 2001, and was raised in Ōita Prefecture. Her career in entertainment began in 2016 when she was scouted by a talent agency during her middle school years.
Mori's most prominent and career-defining voice acting role came in 2019 when she was cast as the lead heroine, Hina Amano, in Makoto Shinkai's critically and commercially successful animated film Weathering With You. Selected from over 2,000 applicants, her performance as the optimistic "sunshine girl" was her first major voice role and introduced her to a wide audience. For this work, she received the Best Rookie Actress award at the 14th Seiyu Awards in 2020, a significant honor in the voice acting industry. The film itself became one of Japan's highest-grossing anime films, with a worldwide box office of nearly 190 million U.S. dollars.
Following her success in Weathering With You, Mori's career expanded rapidly, though she has primarily focused on live-action film and television roles. She has starred in numerous dramas and films, including the lead role in the television series A Warmed Up Love in 2020 and the Netflix series The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House in 2023. While she has not taken on many subsequent voice roles, her achievement as a voice actor was recognized early in her career. In 2021, she was signed by the agency Sony Music Artists, which also manages her music career. She has released several singles and an album, further establishing her as a multifaceted entertainer.
