Kong Kuwata, born Takanobu Kuwata on August 23, 1961, in Sakai, Osaka, Japan, is a Japanese voice actor, television and theatrical actor, radio announcer, and gospel singer. He is an active member of the theatrical group Lilly Boat Army 2 and is affiliated with the Cube Group talent agency. His stage name, Kong, is a reference to King Kong, reflecting his large stature of 175 cm and 105 kg.
Kuwata is best known for his long-standing association with the game company SNK, having voiced the iconic antagonist Geese Howard in the Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters series for over three decades, beginning with the original Fatal Fury: King of Fighters in 1991. He also famously voices Genjuro Kibagami in the Samurai Shodown (Samurai Spirits) series, a role he has played since Samurai Shodown II in 1994 and continued in the 2019 series reboot. His deep, low-pitched voice is a trademark, and he is noted for his fluent English pronunciation, a skill he honed while singing English gospel music.
Beyond video games, his anime voice credits include the role of Kikuchiyo, the boisterous cyborg samurai, in the 2004 series Samurai 7. In the film Appleseed Ex Machina (2007), he provided the voice for the character Aeacus. His other anime work includes the role of Nagase (the father) in Akaneiro ni Somaru Saka (2008) and Kaibutsu in Ginga Legend Weed (2006). In the 2009 short film Ring of Gundam, directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino, he voiced the character Glenn. He also appeared in the 2017 Chinese CGI anime series The King of Fighters: Destiny, reprising his role as Geese Howard.
His acting work extends to live-action stage productions. In 2024, he performed in the musical adaptation of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood, taking on the role of Dario Brando. He also appeared in the 2018 live-action film Oz Land.
