Teiji Ōmiya

Teiji Ōmiya was a Japanese actor and voice actor born in Tokyo on November 22, 1928. He attended Nihon University but withdrew before completing his degree. Ōmiya was active in the entertainment industry from 1950 until his death on December 23, 1994, at the age of 66. At the time of his passing, he was a member of the Tokyo Actor's Consumer's Cooperative Society and held the rank of 3-dan in kendo.

Ōmiya became a familiar presence in Japanese animation and tokusatsu productions from the 1960s through the early 1990s, often cast in roles of kind old men or authoritative figures. His extensive voice acting career included numerous prominent anime television series. He was the voice of Director Anderson in the classic series Science Ninja Team Gatchaman, a role he reprised for Gatchaman II and the 1978 compilation film Gatchaman The Movie. In the 1967 series Mach GoGoGo, known internationally as Speed Racer, he voiced Daisuke Mifune, the father of the title character. He also played the lead role of Ichi in the 1968 historical series Sabu to Ichi Torimono Hikae.

His work in tokusatsu, or live-action special effects series, was extensive. In the Android Kikaider franchise, he voiced numerous characters including Anglerfish Brown in the original series and Red Hakaider in Kikaider 01. In the world of Kamen Rider, he played Gainagisukan in Kamen Rider BLACK RX and the Chameleon Mutant in the Kamen Rider Black movie. He contributed to many entries in the Super Sentai series, providing voices for monsters in Himitsu Sentai Goranger, Battle Fever J, Denshi Sentai Denjiman, Taiyou Sentai Sun Vulcan, and others.

Ōmiya also had a prolific career in anime films. He voiced the character Oni in the 1981 Doraemon short film What Am I for Momotaro, a role later assumed by Yasuhiro Takato after his death. Other film credits include the ICPO Director in Lupin III: Legend of the Gold of Babylon, Chief Minagawa in Roujin Z, Captain Mable in the film adaptation of Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water, and Zenzō in the 1994 film Raiyantsūrii no Uta. He also appeared in live-action television dramas, including several NHK Taiga dramas such as Tokugawa Ieyasu and Hana no Ran. Teiji Ōmiya passed away from colorectal cancer.
