Julia Oliva
Description
Julia Oliva is a Spanish philologist, speech therapist, and actress who has worked extensively in voice dubbing for film and television since 1989. Her career in the performing arts began in 1986, combining pedagogical, artistic, and research work. She is most widely recognized as the Spanish voice actress for the character Chichi in the Dragon Ball franchise, a role she has voiced across numerous series and films. During a dubbing session for one episode of Dragon Ball, she initially refused to deliver a line she considered to be a paradigm of machismo, which stated she had to prove she was a good wife by doing housework, though she ultimately recorded the line as scripted.
Beyond her work on Dragon Ball, which includes the original Dragon Ball series, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Super, and films such as Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods and Dragon Ball Z: Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan, her other voice role includes Lala in The Jungle Book: The Adventures of Mowgli. In addition to dubbing, Oliva has worked as a vocal performer with the Baremboim-Said Foundation and the Young Orchestra of Andalusia, and as a vocal director for productions at the Teatro Español and the Centro Andaluz de Teatro. She has also directed voice laboratories at the Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla and the Festival de Flamenco de Córdoba. For her work, she was nominated for Best Musical Direction at the Premios Max in 2012 and 2013. Currently, she serves as the Head of the Voice Department at the Escuela Pública de Formación Cultural de Andalucía and is a founding member of the board of directors of the Academy of Performing Arts of Spain.
