Henrique Feist
Description
Henrique Feist is a Portuguese actor, singer, and voice actor best known for his extensive work on the Portuguese dub of the Dragon Ball franchise, where he has voiced multiple main characters. Born in Lisbon in 1972, Feist began his entertainment career at a young age, making his television debut at ten years old on the program Passeio dos Alegres alongside his brother, Nuno Feist. In 1985, the duo achieved third place in the Festival da Canção, Portugal's prestigious annual song contest. Seeking further training, Feist moved to London in 1988 to specialize in musical theatre and returned to Portugal in the early 1990s.
Upon his return, Feist added voice acting to his portfolio, a decision that would define his career. He became most famous for his roles in the Portuguese dub of Dragon Ball Z, which achieved massive success in Portugal during the 1990s. Demonstrating remarkable vocal range, Feist voiced a significant portion of the Son family. He is most recognized as the definitive Portuguese voice of the protagonist Son Goku, a role he carried from the character's childhood into adulthood. In addition to Goku, Feist provided the voice for Goku's sons, Son Gohan and Trunks, as well as for other characters including the Elder Kaioshin and the villainous Goku Black.
His work on the franchise spanned numerous films and series. He voiced Son Goku, Son Gohan, and Trunks in several Dragon Ball Z movies, including Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan, Bojack Unbound, Lord Slug, and Wrath of the Dragon. For the sequel series Dragon Ball Super, Feist was the voice of Son Goku, Son Gohan, Trunks, the Elder Kaioshin, and Son Goku Black for the first 104 episodes. Beyond Dragon Ball, his anime and animation voice work extended to other popular series. He contributed his voice and served as a director for Portuguese adaptations of Pokémon, Power Rangers, and Dexter's Laboratory, as well as various Disney productions. His Disney voice roles include singing for the character Olaf in the Frozen franchise and voicing Kovu in The Lion King II.
Concurrent with his voice acting, Feist has maintained a successful career in theatre. He has a degree in musical theatre and has performed in numerous stage productions, including Sweeney Todd, Cabaret, and Amalia. In 2013, he won a Globo de Ouro, Portugal's Golden Globes, for Best Theatre Actor for his performance in the musical Broadway Baby, which celebrated his and his brother's thirty-year career. He has also worked as a choreographer, director, and vocal coach for television. In later years, Feist has been open about the financial challenges facing voice actors in Portugal, stating in a 2025 interview that he no longer performs as many dubbing roles because the compensation has become insignificant compared to when he first voiced Son Goku.
