Gerstell's most significant and enduring role in anime is that of Mihoshi Kuramitsu in the Tenchi Muyo! franchise. Beyond the Tenchi Muyo! universe, Gerstell's voice acting career included a wide range of roles in Western animation during the 1980s and 1990s. She was known for providing the voice of Rapture, the lead guitarist of the band The Stingers, in the Jem animated series. Her other notable roles include Princess Daphne in the animated adaptation of Dragon's Lair, Katie Dodd in Disney's TaleSpin, and Ample Grime in Darkwing Duck. She also contributed voices to several animated films, including My Little Pony: The Movie, in which she voiced the character Magic Star.
