Kinosuke Naito

Description
Kinosuke Naito is the Japanese author and creator behind the Farming Life in Another World franchise. He is the original writer of the light novel series, which began as an online serialization on the user-generated novel website Shōsetsuka ni Narō on December 29, 2016. The series proved popular enough to be acquired by the publisher Enterbrain, which began releasing the story in print as light novel volumes on October 30, 2017, with illustrations provided by the artist Yasumo. As of 2025, over seventeen volumes of the light novel have been published.

Naito is also credited as the original creator for the manga adaptation of Farming Life in Another World, which began serialization in Fujimi Shobo’s Monthly Dragon Age magazine on November 9, 2017, with artwork by Yasuyuki Tsurugi. A second manga series, Isekai Nonbiri Nōka no Nichijō, illustrated by Yuji, began serialization in the same magazine in July 2022. The property was adapted into a twelve-episode anime television series by the studio Zero-G, which aired from January 6 to March 24, 2023.

Regarding his background, Naito has stated in an interview that his interest in writing began when he was in middle school, and he had been working as a writer in various capacities for thirty years prior to the success of Farming Life in Another World. He also revealed that he grew up on a farm, a personal detail that directly informs the subject matter of his fantasy series. Naito explained that the initial inspiration for the story came during a period when his job was making him tired, leading him to want to escape from reality; he envisioned a second life as a relaxed farmer, but he gave the protagonist helpful abilities because he admitted he does not like to work too hard himself.

The creator’s artistic identity is strongly tied to themes of rural life, self-sufficiency, and low-conflict fantasy. The narrative focuses on a protagonist who reincarnates into a new world not to embark on grand adventures but to pursue a peaceful and humble farming existence. This focus on agricultural development, community building, and everyday life over dramatic battles is a hallmark of his work. Naito has expressed that he hopes readers will have fun, feel carefree, and laugh, while also noting that he does not want them to be disrespectful of real farming work, which he understands is a genuine battle against nature. Kinosuke Naito’s significance in the industry comes from his creation of a successful and enduring example of the "isekai" subgenre that prioritizes slice-of-life and agrarian themes over traditional action-adventure tropes, leading to a substantial multimedia franchise that spans novels, manga, and anime.
