Description
After dying at thirty-nine from an illness brought on by overwork, Hiraku Machio is given a second chance by a sympathetic god. Granting him a disease-free, rejuvenated body and a miraculous tool called the Almighty Farming Tool that can transform into any implement he needs, Hiraku is sent to a dangerous, monster-filled region known as the Forest of Death. His only wish is to live a quiet, self-sufficient life as a farmer, inspired by the agricultural television shows he watched during his long hospital stay.

Hiraku quickly discovers that the tool makes clearing land, tilling soil, and constructing a home almost effortless. Before long, he is joined by a pair of injured black-furred inferno wolves he names Kuro and Yuki, who become his loyal companions, and later by a giant demon spider, Zabuton, who proves to be an expert weaver of cloth. The first major turning point comes when a beautiful vampire named Ruuruushii Ru, believed to be the last of her kind, appears at his doorstep seeking refuge. Hiraku takes her in, and Ru eventually becomes his first wife. Soon after, an angel warrior named Tia, who had been hunting Ru, arrives, only to be won over by the peaceful life of the settlement and decides to stay. Tia becomes Hiraku's second wife.

What began as a one-man homestead rapidly transforms into a multicultural and multi-species village named Great Tree Village. High elves, dwarves, beastmen, dragon-kin, lizardmen, and many other races, each fleeing hardship or persecution in the outside world, gather to live under Hiraku's relaxed leadership. He is reluctant but accepts the role of village chief. The narrative then follows the growth of this community across multiple arcs. Early arcs focus on basic survival: building houses, digging irrigation canals, producing food, brewing alcohol, and managing a growing population. As the village expands, Hiraku establishes subsidiary settlements such as Second Village for the minotaurs and Third Village for the centaurs. A recurring and notable arc involves the organization of a grand martial arts tournament, which becomes a beloved annual event that draws visitors from across the region, including the demon king's court and dragons. Other arcs include exploring an underground labyrinth, opening trade routes with the nearby human city of Shashaato, dealing with food and cultural trends that cause political ripple effects, and sending the younger generation to attend school in the demon kingdom's capital. Throughout all of this, Hiraku remains grounded, spending most of his time tending his ever-expanding fields, cooking elaborate meals, and interacting with his many neighbors, including his wives, children, and animal companions, enjoying a daily life that is consistently peaceful, warm, and humorous.
