Steven Blum is an American voice actor born on April 29, 1960, in Santa Monica, California. He is widely recognized for his deep, versatile voice and has become one of the most prolific and respected figures in the voice acting industry, with a career spanning animation, anime, and video games.
Blum's career began in the mailroom of Empire International Pictures, where he was offered his first voice role in an anime project. He eventually transitioned to full-time voice acting, building an extensive body of work. In the early part of his career, he was often credited under pseudonyms such as David Lucas.
He is perhaps best known for his iconic role as Spike Spiegel in the English dub of the acclaimed anime series Cowboy Bebop. This performance is considered a landmark in anime dubbing and cemented his status in the industry. His other prominent anime roles include Orochimaru and Zabuza Momochi in Naruto, Mugen in Samurai Champloo, and Roger Smith in The Big O.
