Maurice Sarfati was a French actor and voice actor born in Paris on June 24, 1931, who passed away in the same city on November 14, 2013. His career began in live-action film and theatre during the 1950s, with appearances in productions such as the 1956 film Notre-Dame de Paris. He later became widely recognized for his extensive work in dubbing, providing the French voices for numerous international stars, including Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Dustin Hoffman.

Sarfati was particularly prolific in the dubbing of animated series and films, including many Japanese anime. He served as both a voice actor and an ADR director for the French adaptations of several major anime series. Notably, he directed the French dub of the popular series Nicky Larson and provided voices for most of the villains in the show.

His voice acting roles in anime are numerous and varied. He voiced the character Epouvantail, the Scarecrow, in the 1982 film The Wizard of Oz. In the series Around the World with Willy Fog, he was the voice of John Sullivan. For the series Honoo no Alpen Rose: Judy & Randy, Sarfati voiced two distinct characters: Jean-Jacques and the parrot Ponpon.

Beyond the roles mentioned, his extensive anime filmography includes Inspector Lestrade and Smiley in Sherlock Hound, the narrator in the old dub of Future Boy Conan, various characters in Space Adventure Cobra, Mendo and the Principal in Urusei Yatsura, and Dick in Project A-ko. He also voiced the narrator and Koko in Kimba the White Lion. His work extended to other animated productions as well, such as providing the voice of Tom in the French dubs of Tom and Jerry and the Big Bad Wolf in Disney's Silly Symphonies.

In addition to his on-screen and voice work, Sarfati also contributed as a writer, scripting episodes for the French co-production of Sesame Street, 1, Rue Sésame.
