Description
A young woman named Chiure lives in a diminishing coastal community in Mozambique. As her seaside home faces mounting threats, she discovers and awakens a centuries-old connection to the ocean, stirring an ancient water god that has been sleeping beneath the earth. The story follows her journey to protect her people by harnessing this newly revived bond with the divine.

The narrative is inspired by Mozambican folklore and serves as a story of ancestral heritage and ecological balance. The central conflict arises from the decline of Chiure's community, forcing her to seek help from the spiritual realm. By awakening the water deity, she sets in motion a series of events that re-establish a long-dormant relationship between her village and the sea.

The main character, Chiure, is a girl who steps into the role of protector for her people. The water god she awakens is an ancient entity tied to the land's history. The film is a production of N LITE, an animation company operating in Japan, in collaboration with the South African studio LUCAN. Key creative figures include Vanessa dos Santos, who writes the screenplay, with story credits shared by Clayton Koski and Christiano Terry, who also serves as art director. Tom Lintern works as a watercolor artist on the project. The film was announced as part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of Mozambique's independence, placing it within a context of cultural recognition. Chiure: Child of the Sea is currently in production with no release date announced as of this summary.
