Description
A 35-year-old man named Yuji Koroki works at a popular lifestyle magazine called Mare, but he feels deeply out of place among his strange and sharp-tongued colleagues. His only escape is his intense admiration for the rock musician Tamio Okuda, whose cool, unbothered persona Yuji tries desperately to emulate as a survival strategy in his intimidating new environment. When he is transferred to the magazine's editing division, his world is turned upside down by the arrival of Akari Amami, a stunningly beautiful and charismatic publicist for an apparel brand. Yuji falls for her at first sight, and to his surprise, they begin dating, making him believe he has finally found happiness.
However, Yuji soon discovers that Akari is not the perfect woman he imagined. As their relationship deepens, she reveals a bewitching and dangerously manipulative side, wielding her sex appeal like a weapon that leaves a trail of obsessed and ruined men in her wake. Yuji’s professional life becomes increasingly chaotic, complicated further by his demanding editor-in-chief Kinoshita, his senior writer Yoshizumi, and the free-spirited columnist Yu Mikami and fashion writer Shu Koda. What begins as a romantic fantasy spirals into a psychological and professional nightmare. Yuji is forced to confront the question of whether his carefully constructed persona as a cool, detached man is any more real than Akari’s destructive performance of feminine charm. The story follows his desperate attempts to survive her chaos while navigating the absurdities of the Tokyo publishing world, leading to a climax where both must decide if they can drop their acts and face each other as flawed human beings. The live-action film adaptation, based on the manga by Chokkaku Shibuya, stars Satoshi Tsumabuki as Yuji and Kiko Mizuhara as Akari.
