Description
In a park in an unnamed Japanese city, a mysterious man in a black suit with red eyes waits for clients. Known as Tadashi Usobuki, he accepts requests to kill, but his methods defy conventional investigation. He uses a special power that combines hypnosis, suggestion, and psychological manipulation to drive his targets to their deaths through what appear to be natural causes, accidents, suicides, or sudden illnesses. Because he takes no direct illegal action and leaves no forensic evidence, his crimes are impossible to prove in court, granting him complete immunity from justice. One example of his work involves hypnotizing a gangster into believing he is being attacked by a swarm of killer wasps, causing a fatal reaction with no physical cause. On another occasion, during an interrogation, he places a detective named Inspector Yome under a spell, causing her to see a worm burrowing into her wrist, leading her to take her own life. Later, he uses a post-hypnotic trigger to force Inspector Katsumura to confess publicly to hiring Usobuki to kill Yome, a confession that only serves to destroy the inspector without implicating the assassin. While Usobuki accepts his clients' wishes, he privately mocks their foolishness and dark desires. The only obstacle to his operations is Tomoko Tada, a police detective who, for unknown reasons, is completely immune to his controlling powers. She is the sole person who can stand against him, setting up a tense cat-and-mouse game as she tries to find a way to stop a killer who cannot be touched by the law. The story unfolds across a short season of episodes, directed by Koji Shiraishi and starring Tori Matsuzaka as the unprovable killer.
