Description
On the resort island of Jeju, a quick-witted and resourceful young woman named Joo Yoo-rin gets by on her charm and a knack for telling lies. The daughter of a compulsive gambler, she works as a tour guide and uses her fluency in multiple languages to navigate one tricky situation after another while trying to pay off her father’s debts. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she crosses paths with Seol Gong-chan, the handsome and principled heir to a major hotel chain.
Gong-chan is a man who values honesty above all else, but he is desperate. His aging grandfather’s health is failing, and the old man’s last wish is to be reunited with his long-lost granddaughter, Gong-chan’s cousin who was separated from the family years ago. After a search that leads nowhere, Gong-chan notices a passing resemblance between Yoo-rin and his late aunt. Seeing no other option to give his grandfather peace, he hires Yoo-rin to pose as his missing cousin.
Initially, it is meant to be a short-term business transaction. Yoo-rin, who desperately needs the money, agrees to the elaborate ruse. Her performance is so convincing that the shock and joy of being reunited with his “granddaughter” actually causes the grandfather’s health to improve dramatically. Now, Gong-chan and Yoo-rin are trapped in a web of their own making, forced to live together under the same roof and maintain the pretense that they are family. This arrangement becomes infinitely more complicated when Gong-chan’s former girlfriend, a famous professional tennis player named Kim Se-hyun who previously broke his heart to pursue her career, returns to Korea hoping to win him back.
As they spend more time together, the line between their fake familial affection and genuine romantic feelings begins to blur. Gong-chan finds himself drawn to Yoo-rin’s bright, mischievous personality, while Yoo-rin struggles to hide her own growing love for the man she now calls her cousin. Adding to the emotional turmoil is Seo Jung-woo, a charming and free-spirited playboy who is also Gong-chan’s best friend. Jung-woo is immediately captivated by Yoo-rin’s unique spirit. He quickly discovers the truth about her identity, yet keeps her secret as he falls hopelessly in love with her, creating a painful one-sided love triangle.
The narrative arc follows Yoo-rin and Gong-chan as they navigate a minefield of close calls, jealous confrontations, and growing public scrutiny. Their contractual relationship deepens into a desperate, forbidden love that neither can confess without unraveling the lie that has saved the grandfather’s life. The drama builds toward the inevitable exposure of the secret, forcing the main characters to confront the consequences of their deception and make heart-wrenching choices about love, family, and honesty. The story ultimately resolves as the characters find a way to untangle their lies and pursue their true feelings, culminating in a final reunion that honors the bonds they have formed.
