OVA
Description
Myung Fang Lone is a central character in the Macross Plus OVA and its theatrical adaptation. She grew up on the colony planet Eden, where she developed a deep love for singing, inspired by her biologist father’s appreciation for nature. During her high school years, she wrote and performed the song Voices, which became a hit at a school festival. She shared a close friendship with Isamu Alva Dyson and Guld Goa Bowman, but the relationship turned into a volatile love triangle. After Guld discovered Myung and Isamu in a tender moment, he reacted with violent jealousy and assaulted both of them, an act he later repressed. The trauma shattered the trio’s bond, and Myung left Eden soon afterward, abandoning her dream of becoming a singer.

Seven years later, at age twenty-three, Myung returns to Eden as the producer for Sharon Apple, a popular virtual idol powered by artificial intelligence. The AI is incomplete and lacks genuine emotions, so Myung secretly supplies the emotional data that makes Sharon’s performances feel real. This arrangement forces Myung to suppress her own feelings, mirroring her avoidance of her past. Her return to Eden brings her face-to-face with Isamu and Guld, who are now rival test pilots in Project Super Nova. The reunion reopens old wounds and unresolved romantic tensions. Myung is caught between the two men, struggling with her lingering affection for both while trying to maintain emotional distance.

Myung’s role in the story is twofold: she is the emotional anchor for Sharon Apple and the catalyst for the personal conflict between Isamu and Guld. Her presence reignites their rivalry and ultimately forces each of them to confront the painful memory of the incident that broke their friendship. As Sharon’s AI develops a malevolent consciousness due to an illegal bio-chip, Myung becomes a target. Sharon imprisons her inside the SDF-1 Macross during a concert on Earth, using her emotional connection to manipulate Isamu and Guld. In the climax, Myung breaks free from Sharon’s control and uses her own voice—singing Voices from within the AI’s core—to help Isamu overcome Sharon’s influence. She also reconciles with Guld before his sacrificial death and reaffirms her deeper love for Isamu.

Throughout the narrative, Myung undergoes significant development. She begins as a withdrawn and guarded figure who has rejected her passion for singing and tries to keep her emotions bottled up. By the end, she reclaims her voice and confronts the trauma she had tried to escape. Her notable abilities include her singing talent, especially the song Voices, which carries emotional weight and serves as a thematic link between the characters. She also possesses a strong capacity for empathy and emotional insight, qualities that both make her effective as Sharon’s producer and leave her vulnerable to manipulation. Myung’s background is of Chinese-Caucasian descent, she stands 170 cm tall, and she is unmarried. Her occupation as a producer places her at the intersection of technology, entertainment, and personal history, making her a key figure in the story’s exploration of memory, guilt, and the power of human emotion.
