Description
Isamu Alva Dyson is a central figure in the events surrounding Project Super Nova. Born on Earth on March 27, 2015, he was raised on the rural planet Eden, where he developed a deep fascination with flight alongside his close friends, Guld Goa Bowman and Myung Fang Lone. This childhood trio shared a complex bond, with both young men harboring feelings for Myung. A traumatic falling out between the three friends ultimately led Isamu to leave Eden and pursue his dream of becoming a pilot.

Isamu joined the UN Spacy on September 1, 2034, and quickly distinguished himself as an extraordinarily gifted variable fighter pilot, achieving an astronomical kill ratio in conflicts against renegade Zentradi forces. However, his career was characterized by a fierce independent streak and a blatant disregard for authority. His superiors viewed him as a reckless hothead whose penchant for showmanship and daring often needlessly risked his comrades and himself. Despite receiving the prestigious Roy Poker medal for exceptional piloting on three separate occasions, he was disqualified each time due to his numerous other infractions. His habit of disobeying orders eventually led to a dead end, with no conventional unit willing to accept him. As a result, he was reassigned as a test pilot for the YF-19 fighter at the New Edwards Test Flight Center on his home planet of Eden, a punishment that paradoxically placed him exactly where he wanted to be.

Isamu’s personality is a volatile mix of carefree confidence and reckless abandon. He lives by a personal philosophy that luck is one of his skills, a belief that fuels his fearless and often insubordinate actions. He is short-tempered, has a smart mouth, and is known as a womanizer, viewing life with an unfiltered, impulsive energy that often gets him into trouble. While this behavior frequently earns the ire of his superiors and colleagues, it is underpinned by an undeniable, almost intuitive genius for flying. His approach to life is in direct opposition to the controlled, disciplined nature of his former friend and current professional rival, Guld.

As a test pilot for the YF-19, Isamu’s primary role is to prove its superiority over General Galaxy’s YF-21, piloted by Guld, in a competition to become the UN Spacy’s next main variable fighter. His motivations are driven by a potent mix of professional pride and deep-seated personal history. He is determined to win the project, not just for the glory, but to prove himself against his old rival and to confront the painful memories and unresolved feelings that resurface with the unexpected return of Myung. His reckless flying style frequently clashes with the strict protocols of the test program, causing friction with engineers like Yann Neumann, but his raw talent consistently forces his team to adapt.

The core of the story revolves around Isamu’s key relationships, which are inextricably linked. His relationship with Guld Goa Bowman is one of the most pivotal. Once best friends united by a love of flight, their bond shattered after a violent incident involving Myung. As rivals in Project Super Nova, their professional competition is a proxy for their personal animosity, filled with confrontations and dangerous maneuvers in the sky. His dynamic with Myung Fang Lone is fraught with nostalgia, regret, and unresolved romantic tension. She is a living reminder of his past on Eden, and their reunion forces them to confront the event that tore the trio apart. Finally, his relationship with his machine, the YF-19, is symbiotic. He pushes it to its limits and beyond, demanding performance that matches his own daring, while his skill is the only thing that can unlock its true potential.

Isamu undergoes significant development throughout the narrative. Initially presented as a purely self-centered and impulsive maverick, the pressures of the project and the forced proximity to his past begin to chip away at his bravado. His reckless actions are not just for show but are a way of coping with old wounds. The escalating conflict with Guld forces him to move beyond simple rivalry. In the climax, when the advanced AI Sharon Apple goes rogue and takes control of military systems, Isamu’s rivalry with Guld transforms into a desperate alliance. He ultimately reconciles with his former friend, acknowledging their shared history and fighting alongside him to save Myung and stop the AI. This final confrontation forces him to shed his immaturity and confront his past directly, leading to a more focused and heroic, if still fiercely independent, sense of purpose.

Isamu’s abilities as a pilot are nothing short of phenomenal. He possesses incredible reflexes and an almost supernatural spatial awareness, allowing him to perform maneuvers that push his fighter beyond its theoretical limits. His combat style is aggressive, intuitive, and full of unorthodox tactics that would be suicidal for a lesser pilot. He has a demonstrated ability to survive crashes and situations that should be fatal, leading Guld to comment on his devil’s luck. This raw talent is his defining characteristic, and it is the single reason his insubordination is tolerated. Later, continuing his career, he eventually joins the private military service S.M.S., where he continues to fly advanced variable fighters.
